Disclaimer
Last updated and effective: October 23, 2026
Section 1 – Key facts about our products
- Parts are used and have a service history unless the listing says otherwise; refurbished or remanufactured listings describe their own condition.
- Most parts are imported from Japan and were built for Japanese-market vehicles.
- Every engine passes a multi-point inspection and compression test, and we only ship engines with good compression results. Other parts aren't bench-tested unless the listing says so.
- All sales are final except as set out in our Return & Refund Policy.
Section 2 – Product condition
- "Used" means the part was installed and working before it was removed, not that it's faulty.
- Engines: usually 20,000–60,000 miles. Surface rust, minor seepage and aged hoses are normal.
- Transmissions: grime, corrosion and seal weeping are common. Not bench-tested unless stated.
- Front clips: may have cosmetic marks, small dents or missing trim.
- Electrical parts and ECUs: not bench-tested, sold without warranty, and may need reprogramming.
- We can't guarantee how a used part will perform or how long it will last. Have a qualified mechanic inspect every part before installation.
Section 3 – Warranty limits
- Our limited Warranty is the only warranty we give. Where it applies, implied warranties are limited to its length.
- Electrical parts, rotary engines and used performance transmissions are sold as is, where the law allows.
- We believe listings are accurate based on the import documents available to us. Tell us about any material error before installing the part.
- Labor, towing, freight, rental cars and other incidental costs aren't covered.
- Installation by a non-certified mechanic, missed maintenance, overheating, modifications, forced induction, racing or unauthorized repairs void coverage. A repair or exchange doesn't extend the warranty.
Section 4 – Vehicle compatibility and fitment
- Listings and our vehicle finder are general guides and may not cover every regional variation, trim or option.
- It's your responsibility to match the engine or transmission code, transmission type and drivetrain to your vehicle.
- Common differences include power output, sensor and emissions connections, gear ratios, accessory brackets and ECU requirements.
- Parts that don't fit can't be returned or refunded unless the Japanese specifications we posted were wrong.
Section 5 – Mileage disclosure
- Mileage comes from Japanese auction or dismantler records when they're available, converted from kilometers to miles.
- Used engines typically have 20,000–60,000 miles, depending on model year.
- If there's no reliable record, we show no mileage or mark it as unknown.
- The federal odometer law applies to complete vehicles, not parts, but we follow its spirit and never misrepresent mileage.
Section 6 – Emissions, legal use and long-block pricing
- JDM parts may not meet EPA or California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards. Confirm the part is compliant and approved for your vehicle before installing it.
- Federal law prohibits installing parts that make a road vehicle non-compliant with emissions rules.
- In California many JDM engine swaps aren't street-legal without CARB compliance, and an engine change needs a BAR Smog Check Referee inspection.
- Other states may have their own inspection rules. Move the emissions equipment to the replacement engine.
- Off-road and competition use must follow the rules of the relevant sanctioning body.
- Long blocks are sold as the cylinder head and short block only, unless stated otherwise. Attached accessories are a convenience and may not meet local emissions laws.
Section 7 – Brand and trademark disclaimer
South Bay JDM is an independent retailer and isn't affiliated with any vehicle manufacturer. Brand and model names are the trademarks of their owners and are used only to describe compatibility. "OEM" means the part was made or fitted at the factory, not that it was sold through an authorized dealer.
Section 8 – Website information
- Prices, product details and fitment data may contain errors. If we find one after you order, we'll contact you before shipping.
- Photos show the actual part or its typical condition, and colors may look different on your screen.
- Correcting a listing doesn't change an order that has already shipped.
- If the English and Spanish versions of the site differ, the English version applies.
Section 9 – Installation and professional advice
- Guidance on our website and from our staff is general and doesn't replace an inspection by a qualified mechanic.
- Engines and transmissions must be installed by a certified mechanic for the warranty to apply.
- Our optional Local Installation service has its own labor warranty and terms.
Section 10 – Limitation of liability
Our total liability for any claim about a product is limited to the price you paid for it. We aren't liable for consequential, incidental, indirect or punitive damages or lost profits. Some states restrict these limits, and you keep any rights the law gives you.
Section 11 – Handling and safety
- Engines, transmissions and front clips are heavy; use proper lifting equipment.
- Parts may contain leftover fluids. Dispose of them according to EPA and state rules.
- Inspect freight deliveries before signing, as explained in our Shipping Policy.
- We aren't responsible for injury or damage caused by improper handling, storage or installation.
Section 12 – State-specific notices
California: this disclaimer is governed by California law, and CARB and BAR rules apply to engine changes.
California Proposition 65 – WARNING: Used engines, transmissions and other vehicle parts can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
Other states: your state's consumer protection and inspection laws apply. If they conflict with this disclaimer in a way that can't be waived, this disclaimer applies only as far as the law allows.
